Click on the note / stack toggle at the bottom of the textbox. Use the cmd E shortcut to change the toggle without leaving your keyboard.

Select a note, then open it in a new tab with the →. The textbox will automatically be focused and you can start creating notes in your new stack.

Select a note or stack, then press enter on it. If it is a note or an empty stack, a focused textbox will appear underneath, and any text entered and submitted with another enter will exist as notes in that stack.

Pressing enter on a stack with existing notes will expand to show a scrollable window of those notes underneath it.
Press enter to collapse any expanded stack.
Select a note or stack and hit +. A focused textbox will appear underneath, and any text entered and submitted with another enter will exist as notes in that stack.
Convert a note into an empty stack with ^, and you can conversely convert an empty stack back into a note with ^ again.
